Emily Carr University is thrilled to announce that our interim CIO, Sandeep Sidhu, has accepted a permanent position with our university.

Sandeep joined ɫ��TV in November 2020 on a six-month assignment from Simon Fraser University, where she served as the Director of IT Client Services. Since joining ɫ��TV, Sandeep has established a Digital Transformation Council to support transparent decision-making in technology investments and delivered the university’s first-ever virtual convocation in partnership with Student Services. As the university undertook a search for the next permanent CIO, Sandeep impressed the search committee with her insight, dedication and leadership.

“After a competitive and thoughtful search, the committee agreed that Sandeep was the most qualified candidate for the role,” said President Gillian Siddall. “She stood out for her commitment to organizational transformation and her wealth of experience in the post-secondary sector.

"The global pandemic has shown how critical technology is to teaching, learning, and research, and now more than ever we need a strong and capable leader like Sandeep championing that work. I’m thrilled she has accepted our offer and will continue to lead the growth and development of our IT Services department.”

"I genuinely feel humbled and honoured by the opportunity to be part of Emily Carr University and its community,” said Sandeep. “I’m eager to work on campus in the fall for the first time, to feel the on-campus buzz and see student work in the exhibition commons.

"I’m looking forward to working closely with my IT leadership team to implement strategic initiatives that will support the success of our faculty and instructors, and most importantly improve the student experience. I am also very excited about partnering with our Teaching and Learning Centre during the Fall 2021 transition."

Sandeep has nearly 20 years of experience in tech roles. She holds a double master’s degree in information technology and applied research. She is also a visiting professor at SFU’s Beedie School of Business. Her appointment as CIO began on Monday, June 14.
