Rooted in practices of collaboration and shared reflection, this Dialogue Circle invites the public to explore themes of resilience, adaptation, and ecological interconnection. Key questions include:

• How do these layers of change reflect a larger narrative about relationships in this place?
• What can we learn from the flexibility and adaptability of beings in the intertidal zone?
• What stories, language, memories, and futurities do these lands and waters hold?
• What resiliencies and futures are possible here?

What is a Dialogue Circle? It is a space for shared reflection and collaboration, fostering open conversations between artists, community members, and audiences. Through thoughtful facilitation, Dialogue Circles create a meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Tide Places Dialogue Circle considers the space between high and low tides presents an amphibious, unfixed choreography between land and sea. Organisms that make their homes in intertidal areas need to be flexible to these changing conditions, living in a continuous state of flux. Ecologically, intertidal zones are incredibly vital and nutrient rich, making them important food sites for plants, animals and humans.

The area known by the name Skwácháy̓s (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim) or False Creek flats (English) has been a place of massive change, damage and adaptation: once an intertidal ecosystem characterized by saltwater seagrasses, this “place where water is drawn down” was filled in for rail and industrial development in concert with colonization, and more recently altered by rapid gentrification and mass construction.
