Join us for an online lunch-hour artist talk and presentation with Ella White as part of this year's I spy... Speaker Series.

This online artist talk series is a part of a connecting bridge of projects created by UNIT/PITT Society for Art and Critical Awareness. Multi-disciplinary curator Nadia Mahamoor has invited three artists to discuss their practice, present their work, and share their common ground with the themes of I spy…, UNIT/PITT’s disposable camera mail art project. The final talk in the series is with Ella White on May 5.

About:

Ella White is a Gitxaala Nation Tsimshian and Japanese artist and writer residing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and Sel̓íl̓witulh nations. She primarily works in graphite revolving around the human figure. More recently, she has been practicing film photography alongside text. Her poetry incorporates themes of colonialism, sexual assault, and femininity. Ella is deeply inspired by intersectionality and its complexity. She has recently been open to conceptual art and the ways in which art is expansive. Ella’s work has been featured in Burnaby Art Gallery’s Exhibition: “Transitions” (2019).

Nadia Mahamoor is a first generation Sri-Lankan-Malay multi-disciplinary creator currently residing on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Her work currently focuses on identity, textiles, fantasy, futurisms and moral ambiguity. She enjoys conceptual design, experience building, expression, creating dialogs, sharing stories with communities, and exploring new narratives. Currently, she is in the process of completing a BDes at ɫ��TV, majoring in Industrial Design.
